Kenworth T680 Gets New Bendix Fusion

The newest version of the Bendix® Fusion™ advanced driver assistance system (ADAS) is now available on Kenworth T680 trucks. This integration marks a continued partnership between Bendix Commercial Vehicle Systems LLC and Kenworth Truck Company, aimed at enhancing vehicle and highway safety. The updated system is a core component of Kenworth’s new tiered ADAS packages for the T680 model.

Key Highlights:

  • The latest Bendix® Fusion™ safety system is now offered on Kenworth T680 vehicles.
  • New features include Pedestrian Autonomous Emergency Braking (PAEB) and High Beam Assist.
  • The system is built upon existing Bendix technologies, including its full-stability program.
  • Advanced safety features are intended to assist, not replace, a skilled and alert driver.

Enhanced Safety Features

The upgraded Bendix® Fusion™ introduces key innovations to the market. A significant addition is the Pedestrian Autonomous Emergency Braking (PAEB) capability, which uses a new forward-facing camera and upgraded software. This feature is designed to provide audible and visual alerts and can apply the vehicle’s brakes if it detects a pedestrian in its path.

Another new feature is the High Beam Assist. When enabled, this function can automatically switch the headlights from high to low beams when it detects certain lighting conditions from other vehicles, reducing the potential for distracting other drivers.

Comprehensive Driver Support

Beyond its newest features, the Fusion system on the Kenworth T680 includes a suite of proven safety technologies. These systems work together to support the driver in various situations. Key functions include:

  • Autonomous Emergency Braking (AEB)
  • Multi-Lane Autonomous Emergency Braking
  • Highway Departure Braking (HDB)
  • Stationary Vehicle Braking (SVB)
  • Lane Departure Warning (LDW)
  • Bendix™ BlindSpotter® Side Object Detection

The system is engineered to prioritize alerts, helping to minimize driver distraction. Because it is built on the Bendix® ESP® Electronic Stability Program, it also helps drivers mitigate rollover and loss-of-control events.

The Role of the Driver

Bendix and Kenworth emphasize that ADAS technologies are designed to complement safe driving practices, not to replace them. The responsibility for the safe operation of the vehicle remains with the driver at all times. All commercial vehicle safety technologies require a skilled and alert driver who has received comprehensive training on the system’s functions and limitations.
