ICER BRAKES has partnered with SKF to advance sustainability efforts through the innovative SKF RecondOil project. This initiative, implemented at ICER’s production facility in Tudela, Spain, aims to reduce industrial oil consumption and promote a circular economy. Using advanced oil reconditioning technology, ICER BRAKES is set to eliminate the need for new oil purchases by 2025, significantly reducing waste and emissions.
Key Highlights:
- Oil Reconditioning Technology: SKF RecondOil’s Double Separation Technology (DST) purifies used oil to nanometric levels, allowing ICER to reuse it continuously.
- Environmental Impact: The initiative has enabled ICER to reuse 5,000 liters of oil since early 2023, cutting down on hazardous oil waste.
- Future Goals: By 2025, ICER BRAKES aims to fully eliminate the need to purchase new industrial oil, which will minimize the creation of hazardous waste and lower CO2 emissions.
- Increased Efficiency: Reducing lubricant contamination through this system also improves machinery productivity and cuts maintenance costs.
ICER BRAKES and SKF have joined forces in the SKF RecondOil project to enhance sustainability in the brake manufacturing industry. The solution has been rolled out at ICER BRAKES’ production facilities in Tudela, where it focuses on recovering and reusing the oil used in the factory’s presses. Utilizing Double Separation Technology (DST), the oil undergoes purification to a nanometric level, which allows it to be reused safely, supporting a circular economy model within the production process.
Since the project’s implementation in early 2023, ICER BRAKES has already reused 5,000 liters of oil, significantly reducing the environmental footprint of its operations. This reuse is just the beginning, as the company expects that starting from 2025, the purchase of new industrial oil will no longer be necessary. This ambitious goal will not only eliminate the need for new oil purchases but also eradicate the creation of hazardous waste that would otherwise need to be managed by specialized disposal companies.
The collaboration between ICER BRAKES and SKF reflects a strong, shared commitment to sustainability. It was fostered following the III RSCapital Awards 2023, where SKF received the Environmental CSR award for the SKF RecondOil Project, and ICER BRAKES came in second for its ICER Goes Green project. The initiative showcases resource optimization and circularity while emphasizing the importance of partnerships in driving environmental progress.
In addition to its environmental benefits, the SKF RecondOil project offers significant improvements in machinery performance and productivity. One of the major causes of premature machinery failures is lubricant contamination, accounting for nearly 40% of maintenance costs. By purifying and reusing oil, ICER BRAKES is not only reducing operational waste but also ensuring more consistent and effective lubrication, which in turn reduces downtime and maintenance expenses.
The SKF RecondOil technology represents a major step forward for the industry. By partnering in this initiative, ICER BRAKES demonstrates its commitment to sustainability while simultaneously improving productivity and reducing costs. This collaboration enables ICER BRAKES to serve its customers more effectively worldwide, with a clear focus on environmental responsibility and operational efficiency.
