Hyundai Motor America has issued a recall for certain 2025 Hyundai IONIQ 5 N vehicles due to a software error affecting braking performance. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) Campaign Number 25V065000 states that the Integrated Electronic Brake (IEB) and Vehicle Control Unit (VCU) software may cause reduced braking effectiveness when the left-foot braking (LFB) feature is activated. This issue increases stopping distances and poses a heightened risk of crashes.
Key Highlights:
- Affected Vehicles: 1,508 Hyundai IONIQ 5 N models produced between December 18, 2023, and December 10, 2024.
- Issue: A software error in the braking system may cause the ABS system to depressurize, leading to reduced braking performance when the LFB feature is engaged.
- Safety Risk: Increased stopping distances, potentially leading to crashes.
- Warning Signs: No prior warning signs before the issue occurs.
- Remedy: Owners should not use the LFB feature until the IEB and VCU software is updated at Hyundai dealerships free of charge.
- Owner Notification Date: Hyundai will mail notification letters to owners on April 7, 2025.
- Dealer Notification Date: Dealers will be informed on April 7, 2025.
- Contact Information:
- Hyundai Customer Service: 1-855-371-9460 (Recall number: 275)
