The Friction Materials Standards Institute (FMSI) is developing a dedicated brake rotor catalog, with a target release in mid-2028. The institute, which created the aftermarket’s standard part-numbering system for brake and clutch facings, announced the project at its 2026 Brake Weekend, alongside vehicles-in-operation (VIO) data it will add to its catalog effective January 1, 2027. FMSI also named printing company Quad Graphics as its paper-catalog production partner, a move the institute said will speed printing and add a print-order option.
Highlights
- A dedicated brake rotor catalog is under development, with a target release in mid-2028.
- Vehicles-in-operation (VIO) data is scheduled to be added to the catalog effective January 1, 2027.
- Quad Graphics, based in Sussex, Wisconsin, has been named the paper-catalog printing partner.
- FMSI added affiliate contributing associates in Mexico, Brazil, Romania, and India.
Rotor Catalog and 2027 Data Addition
FMSI is developing the rotor catalog as a separate reference from its existing annual catalog, targeting a release in mid-2028. The institute also confirmed it will add vehicles-in-operation (VIO) data — a measure of how many vehicles of a given type remain in service — to its catalog effective January 1, 2027.
Paper Catalog and Global Reach
FMSI’s 2026 annual paper catalog is now available. The institute said its partnership with Quad Graphics is intended to bring the catalog to print faster and to support a print-order option, with delivery expected ahead of the AAPEX show in Las Vegas.
FMSI, founded in 1948, also reported wider international coverage, adding affiliate contributing associates in Mexico, Brazil, Romania, and India.
