Details of the Recall:
Hyundai Motor America is recalling certain 2024 Santa Fe vehicles due to a software error in the transmission control unit (TCU), which may result in the vehicle rolling away when parked. The defective software logic in the TCU can cause damage to the dual clutch transmission (DCT), leading to potential vehicle roll away.
Remedy Instructions:
- Owners are advised to use the emergency parking brake after parking their vehicles.
- Dealers will update the TCU software and inspect the DCT, replacing it if necessary.
- All repairs will be performed free of charge.

Owner notification letters are expected to be mailed by September 9, 2024. Owners can contact Hyundai customer service at 1-855-371-9460, referencing recall number 263. Additionally, they may contact the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) Vehicle Safety Hotline at 1-888-327-4236 or visit www.nhtsa.gov for more information.

Safety Risk Description:
The defect in the TCU software logic can inadvertently engage the clutches, damaging the transmission case and/or parking pawl, which may result in the vehicle rolling away while in PARK. This increases the risk of a crash and injury to occupants or bystanders.
Warnings and Symptoms:
- Parking pawl noise
- Inability to shift into PARK or gear
- Unintended vehicle movement
- Unintended parking gear selection during operation
Recall and Remedy Program:
All affected owners will receive notifications to bring their vehicles to a dealer for a free TCU software update. If the transmission is damaged, it will also be replaced at no cost. Hyundai will reimburse owners for any out-of-pocket expenses incurred due to this recall.
Implementation in Production:
The revised software update was implemented at the plant on June 14, 2024.
