Hino Recalls Medium Duty Trucks For Brake Issue

Hino Motor Sales USA Inc. is recalling 13 model years of medium-duty trucks because the trucks can pull to the left during hard braking in wet conditions, leading to a crash.

The recall involves 7,231 Hino 258ALPs from the 2007 to 2019 model years, all of which were built without brake drum dust shields.

No crashes or injuries have been reported.

wner may notice the brakes slightly pulling to the left during normal braking in very wet conditions. The uneven water saturation makes the right brake assembly less effective than the left brake assembly during hard braking.

Dealers will install new brake drums with dust shields at no cost. This will prevent the right brake assembly from being saturated with water while the left brake assembly stays dry during wet conditions. The shape of the front fenders was also thought to be a contributor to the amount of water splashed into the brake drums.

Hino said it would reimburse customers who had already had repairs made.

The NHTSA recall number is: 19V-044.
