The Friction Materials Standards Institute (FMSI) has signed a new collaboration agreement with AMECA and expanded its data-supply partnership with IDF to cover Mexico and Latin America, broadening the trade organization’s roster of brake-industry supply partners. AMECA has long supported FMSI and its FMSI Brake Weekend gathering, and the new agreement significantly deepens that relationship, according to the two organizations. IDF, a longtime FMSI data partner, will expand the friction-materials group’s data subscriptions across Mexican and broader Latin American markets under the new agreement. Both deals build on a push, underway since 2025, to widen FMSI’s network of data and standards partners.
Dane Menges, AMECA’s director of operations, said the two organizations had wanted a fuller partnership for years. “We’ve wanted to partner with FMSI for decades,” Menges said. “We’ve always been grateful for FMSI and the Friction Industry for all of the support over the years. Now we’re really looking ahead to what we can accomplish together, moving forward.” AMECA and FMSI representatives have appeared together at past FMSI Brake Weekend events, where Menges has spoken alongside FMSI’s other data and standards partners.
IDF’s new agreement extends the electronic-catalog and data services FMSI already supplies to the friction industry into markets the partnership had not previously reached. Garrett Oliveto, FMSI’s general manager, tied the deal to the trade group’s broader expansion. “2025 and 2026 marked the beginning of our global expansion with the successful launch of our annual Subscription Program,” Oliveto said. “Our growing list of supply agreements with EPICOR, Motor, SAE, AMECA, IDF, and S&P Global further solidifies the incredible value FMSI delivers to its members and subscribers.” FMSI detailed the subscription program’s launch when it named its 2025/26 board of directors, and the IDF agreement extends that same data-access model into Latin America.
