Fisker Group Inc. has issued a recall for its 2023-2024 Ocean vehicles due to a software defect in the brake module. This flaw may cause a sudden reduction in regenerative braking, potentially leading to extended stopping distances and an increased risk of crashes. The company plans to address the issue through an over-the-air (OTA) software update, with owner notifications expected by October 14, 2024.

Key Highlights:

  • Recall Affects: 7,745 Fisker Ocean vehicles from 2023-2024 model years.
  • Issue: Software defect in the brake module may cause unexpected reduction in regenerative braking.
  • Risk: Decreased braking performance could lead to extended stopping distances and increased crash risk.
  • Solution: Fisker will provide an OTA software update at no cost to owners.
  • Notification: Owner notification letters to be mailed on October 14, 2024.
  • Customer Support: Fisker customer service can be reached at 1-844-347-5371.

The issue, identified during routine testing, causes a momentary reduction in regenerative braking when braking over bumps or road disturbances. Although the friction brakes remain fully functional, the defect can create an altered braking feel, requiring drivers to apply more pressure to the brake pedal, which could delay the vehicle’s response time.

Fisker plans to correct this issue with a software update. The updated software, included in the OS 2.2 OTA release, is designed to prevent the road disturbance from triggering the Drag Torque Control activation, thus maintaining consistent braking performance.

Owner notification letters are expected to be sent by October 14, 2024, informing them about the recall and the free software update. Owners with questions can contact Fisker customer service at 1-844-347-5371 or the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) at 1-888-327-4236.

The recall affects all 2023 and 2024 Fisker Ocean vehicles manufactured for the U.S. market, and Fisker has acknowledged one injury potentially related to this issue.
