DETROIT – General Motors is recalling certain model-year 2022 Cadillac XT6 sport utility vehicles which might be missing a warning label on their brake-fluid-reservoir caps.

The 235 Cadillac SUVs included within the recall population, produced between Sept. 22, 2021 and April 23, 2022, might not have the label, which, according to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) Part 573 Safety Recall Report 22V-392, puts them in violation of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard (FMVSS) No. 135, “Light vehicle brake systems.”

Required on the label: “WARNING: Clean filler cap before removing. Use only ___ fluid from a sealed container.”

The agency said the safety risk, which might occur if the label is not heeded, is “A failure to prevent introduction of debris into the brake fluid reservoir after removing the cap could degrade brake performance over time, increasing the risk of a crash.”

The remedy is replacement of the cap with the proper version at a franchised dealer. Dealers were notified in early June as to the recall; owners are scheduled to be notified beginning July 18th.
