Ducati North America has issued a recall for specific 2025 Panigale S/STD V4 motorcycles due to a defect in the rear brake system. The issue stems from excessive heat potentially damaging the rear brake hose, leading to a sudden loss of rear brake functionality. This defect increases the risk of crashes and injuries, prompting Ducati to take swift action to address the problem.

Key Highlights:

  • NHTSA Campaign Number: 25V013000
  • Manufacturer: Ducati North America
  • Affected Units: 592 motorcycles manufactured between September 6, 2024, and December 19, 2024.
  • Defect Details: Excessive heat may damage the rear brake hose between the ABS control unit and the rear brake caliper, leading to sudden brake loss.

Ducati has stated that the thermal shield protecting the brake hose may not be correctly positioned, leaving the hose vulnerable to heat from exhaust manifolds. Although the issue affects only the rear brake system, the front brakes remain operational. Ducati has not reported any accidents, injuries, or property damage related to this defect.

Remedy and Notification Plan:

  • Solution: Dealers will reinstall an updated thermal shield to protect the brake hose, free of charge.
  • Owner Notification: Letters will be mailed to affected owners starting February 18, 2025.
  • Contact Information: Owners can contact Ducati customer service at 1-888-391-5446 or the NHTSA Vehicle Safety Hotline at 1-888-327-4236 for additional details.

Ducati first identified the issue through field reports in October 2024 and confirmed the cause following additional investigations. The updated thermal shield design has already been implemented in production lines as of January 10, 2025. This recall ensures that all affected motorcycles will receive the necessary repairs to eliminate the risk associated with the defect.
