Bendix Safety Technologies Reach Key Milestones

Bendix ESP®: Two Decades of Full-Stability Leadership

Introduced in 2005, Bendix® ESP® was the first full-stability system to be widely available for North American commercial vehicles. The technology is engineered to assist drivers in potentially mitigating conditions that could lead to rollover and loss-of-control events. It functions effectively across a wide range of road conditions, including dry, icy, and slippery surfaces.

Beyond its primary function, the Bendix® ESP® braking system is the foundation upon which more advanced systems, including Bendix® Fusion™, are built. Its ability to apply braking across multiple axles and use sensors to detect instability often before a driver can makes it an ideal core technology. Its impact is evident in its widespread industry adoption, with Bendix® ESP® being standard on many tractors from leading OEMs and available for various medium-duty and specialty applications.

Bendix® Fusion™: 10 Years of ADAS Growth

A decade after ESP®’s debut, Bendix launched Bendix® Fusion™ in 2015, taking a significant step forward in vehicle safety by integrating data from radar, camera, and the brake system into a single ADAS platform. Built upon the Bendix® ESP® system, Fusion™ delivers a comprehensive suite of safety features designed to assist drivers in responding to changing traffic situations.

Key features include autonomous emergency braking, adaptive cruise control, overspeed alerts, and lane departure warnings. The system prioritizes alerts to help the driver maintain control. Fusion™ is a scalable technology that is continuously updated, with newer models offering capabilities like ACB (Active Cruise with Braking) Stop and Auto-Go™ and Pedestrian Autonomous Emergency Braking (PAEB). Bendix® Fusion™ is widely available on Class 8 tractors and supports integration with other technologies, such as the Bendix® BlindSpotter® Side Object Detection System.

Paving the Way for the Future

While celebrating these milestones, Bendix remains focused on future innovations that address the industry’s evolution toward automation and electrification. The company is developing next-generation systems, including Global Scalable Brake Control (GSBC®) and Global Scalable Air Treatment (GSAT®). These global platforms are designed to offer advanced capabilities and diagnostics that will lay the foundation for highly automated driving.

Bendix emphasizes that its technologies are designed to complement safe driving practices. No safety system can replace a skilled, alert driver who has received comprehensive training. The responsibility for the safe operation of the vehicle remains with the driver at all times.
