Audi is expanding a 2024 brake pedal recall to cover an additional 18,853 Audi E-Tron and E-Tron Sportback vehicles after field returns revealed the original scope missed affected parts. The new campaign, filed with NHTSA on April 15, 2026, as recall 26V240, covers a defect in which the screw connection between the brake pedal and brake booster may detach, leaving drivers reliant on emergency braking.
Highlights
- NHTSA recall 26V240 covers 2019–2024 Audi E-Tron and 2020–2024 E-Tron Sportback vehicles, 18,853 units total
- Defect is a pushrod screw joint between the brake pedal and brake booster that may disconnect
- Recall expands the earlier 24V621 campaign after Audi identified three additional failed parts outside that scope
- Remedy is inspection and torqueing of the screw joint; no parts replacement required
Defect Details and Safety Risk
According to the Part 573 filing, the screw connection from the brake pedal input rod to the brake booster actuator rod may not have been tightened to manufacturing specifications. If the joint fully separates, the driver loses normal service braking and must use the emergency braking function to stop the vehicle. Drivers may first notice warning signs such as unusual noise after pedal application or a pedal that does not return to its resting position.
The affected component is a brake booster supplied by AUMOVIO Germany GmbH, the independent entity spun off from Continental’s Automotive group in September 2025. The defect traces to a specific screwdriving station at the supplier’s production plant, where a process deviation produced improperly torqued joints over a multi-year window.
Audi states it is not aware of any crashes, fires, injuries, or deaths associated with the defect, and no U.S. market claims have been filed.
Expansion of Prior Recall
The new campaign builds directly on NHTSA recall 24V621 (Audi internal recall 46P6), which was issued in August 2024. That earlier campaign was scoped based on parameters defined by the supplier and production deviations identified in 2019.
Between January and March 2026, Audi received two field parts from vehicles outside the 46P6 scope and conducted a renewed review of additional returned components. That analysis identified three parts exhibiting the same defect previously addressed under 46P6. On April 8, 2026, the Audi Product Safety Committee determined that all parts produced at the affected screwdriving station prior to the final process optimizations in May 2024 — and not already included in 46P6 — needed to be recalled.
The related supplier-side campaign affecting the Continental MK C1 EVO brake system was filed in early 2025 and addressed the same underlying screwdriving station deviation.
Vehicle Breakdown
The 26V240 population splits across two models:
- 2019–2024 Audi E-Tron: 14,102 vehicles, produced between February 6, 2019, and May 29, 2024
- 2020–2024 Audi E-Tron Sportback: 4,751 vehicles, produced between May 20, 2020, and May 13, 2024
Affected part numbers are 4KE614100AP, 4KE614100AD, 4KE614100AS, and 4KE614100AR. Audi has identified affected vehicles using supplier production records tied to the specific screwdriving station and production window.
Remedy and Timeline
Dealers will inspect the pushrod screw joint and torque it to specification at no cost to the owner. No parts replacement is required. Audi corrected the condition in production through final optimizations to the supplier’s manufacturing process in May 2024.
NHTSA lists consumer advisories including “Do Not Drive” and “Park Outside,” which is unusually severe for an inspect-and-torque remedy. Dealer notifications were sent on April 17, 2026, and owner notifications are scheduled to be mailed on or before June 12, 2026. VINs became searchable on NHTSA.gov on April 17, 2026.
Owners can contact Audi customer service at 1-800-253-2834. Audi’s internal recall number is 46P7.
