YARMOUTH PORT, Mass. – Whoever said going off road in a full-size pickup truck meant roughing it never met the 2025 Ford F-150 Tremor 4×4 SuperCrew.
Everything from the 14-speaker Bang & Olufson premium stereo to the heated/ventilated leather-covered, power-adjustable seats to the automatic climate-control system says this truck must be a sublime environment in which to be transported on a daily basis but one which at a moment’s notice can turn into a highly capable beast for taking its occupants deep into the woods or high into the mountains thanks to platform, powertrain and tire modifications when compared to most F-150s.
Smooth, powerful powertrain
Standard motive power for the F-150 Tremor is the venerable 5.0-liter Ford V8, but the review unit featured the no-cost optional 3.5-liter, twin-turbocharged V6 internal-combustion engine (ICE).
The V8 offers 400 horsepower and 410 pounds-feet of torque along with 13,000 pounds of towing capacity, as well as a 0-60 miles-per-hour time of 6 seconds (according to Car and Driver testing) but it pales in comparison to the V6.
The motor in the review truck also produced 400 horsepower but its torque jumped to a stump-pulling 500 pounds-feet and, when power went through the automatic 10-speed transmission and part/full-time four-wheel-drive (4WD) system, and, was capable (again, according to C/D testing) of 0-60 times in the 5.3-second range. In addition, the added torque also translated in greater towing capacity for the 3.5L-equipped truck, up to 13,500 pounds.
The turbo motor also was rated by the federal Environmental Protection Agency as more fuel efficient, capable of 18 miles per gallon in everyday driving (16 urban, 21 highway) while the V8’s numbers were 17 overall (15 urban, 20 highway). My results, with liberal application of the accelerator pedal and the motor’s output, were 18.3 mpg, impressive for a full-size pickup with an ICE.

Platform mods for off-road work
The F-150 Tremor’s developers wanted a comfortable, performance truck with major off-road capabilities, but not a bit less over-the-top than the Raptor.
The suspension of the Tremor includes specialized Tremor off-road shock absorbers all around; coil springs up front; unique Tremor front knuckles; unique Tremor control arms; two-stage variable rate rear leaf springs; 3.73 electronic-locking rear-axle; front stabilizer bar, and a one-inch suspension lift (compared to the normal F-150) which, along with the 33-inch (2775/70R 18 all-terrain) tires brings the Tremor’s ground clearance to 9.4 inches.
Electronic aids assisting in driving when the road surfaces become dicey include eight selectable drive modes: normal, eco, sport, tow/haul, slippery, deep snow/sand, mud/rut, rock crawl.
The anti-lock (ABS) equipped four-wheel disc-brake system features 13.8-inch rotors up front, 13.3 ones in the rear. These operate within 18-inch dark-matte-finished alloy wheels.
These features and systems work well. The 2025 Ford F-150 Tremor rides smoothly over the weather-impacted uneven road surfaces of coastal Cape Cod. It is well controlled, producing a comfortable ride, even for non-truck lovers. The suspension and platform handle the Tremor’s abundant power without feeling squirrely or out of sorts. It is not a sports car, nor did I attack the twisty hilly roads running from the Atlantic Coast into Wellfleet the way I had in a Ford Mustang, but I never felt unsafe while aggressively driving the route.
Electronics – ADAS – add to driving prowess of the Tremor
The F-150 Tremor is a large vehicle sitting high off the ground. This stance negatively impacts some sightlines but the extensive advanced driver-assistance systems (ADAS) helps alleviate any issues the truck’s size and bulk bring. The systems start with the Ford Co-Pilot360™ Assist 2.0 including auto high beams; blind spot assist; BLIS® with cross-traffic alert; camera only aeb oncoming; camera only evasive steering assist; lane-keeping system (lane-keeping alert, lane-keeping aid, driver alert, and road edge detection); intersection assist; pre-collision assist with automatic emergency braking (aeb); pedestrian detection; forward collision warning; dynamic brake support (post-collision braking); rear parking sensors, and reverse brake assist.
The Tremor trim adds 360-monitor; adaptive cruise control (with lane centering, predictive speed assist, and stop & go); AEB oncoming; driver-state detection; evasive steering assist, and front parking sensors.
The Tremor package also includes Pro Trailer Backup Assist™ and Pro Trailer Hitch Assist™. These systems enable even part-time trailer towers, like me, to hitch a trailer to the F-150 and maneuver it (almost) like a pro. I did not get to test the systems with the review Tremor, but I have done so in the past with other F-150s and can verify they work as advertised.
An interior fit for luxury
The large cabin of the SuperCrew F-150 accommodates five full-size adults without a problem and the clever use of space (hidden storage under rear seat; multi-level bins in the doors; two dash glove boxes and a console compartment big enough for a toddler) provide the ability for them to house their gear.
And if you want to work, the transmission selector disappears into the console, and the console-compartment’s cover flips forward creating a large table-like surface; great for working (a 110-Volt outlet in the dash enables plugging in a laptop’s charger) or dining (my experience).
As mentioned, a stunning B&O sound system blasts out the audio from the comprehensive, navigation-equipped infotainment system (all controlled by the 12-inch tablet-oriented touchscreen).
Power assists move the pedals, steering wheel (also heated), front seats and all windows (including the rear slider). The climate-control system is multi-zone and automatic.
The lone interior option was a twin-panel moonroof which realty lets the sunshine into the Tremor’s cabin.
The price of a Tremor
Simply put, the 2025 Ford F-150 Tremor equipped the way I described carries a base price of $76,625. Options like the twin-panel moonroof ($1,495), retractable rear center step ($430 and making it a snap to climb into the 5’6” bed through the door within the power-operated tailgate), spray-in bedliner ($595), and hard bed tonneau cover ($1,200), along with the $1,995 destination & delivery charge, brought the as-reviewed price to $82,340. Not inexpensive, but in line with vehicles similarly equipped.
This is a premium – ne, luxury ride masquerading as an off-roading full-size pickup. It is a combination which might sound contradictory, but Ford made it work in the 2025 F-150 Tremor SupeCrew.
