NORTH RYDE, Australia – Harley-Davidson Australia Pty. Ltd. is recalling certain model-year 2003-2005 Sportster XL883R and XL1200R motorcycles due to potentially faulty brake light.

According to the Australian Government’s Department of Infrastructure, Transport, Regional Development and Communication post outlining the recall details, the effected population of 74 motorcycles’ brake light might remain illuminated when the front brake is no applied.

The post described the potential hazards as: “If this occurs the traffic behind the vehicle will be unable to identify whether the motorcycle is actually braking. This may lead to an accident causing injury or death to the rider and/or passenger and/or other road users.”

The government agency recommends Harley-Davidson owners contact their dealers and have the master cylinders of the motorcycles rebuilt.
