Hyundai Mobis is hosting a 10-day technology showcase at its winter testing ground in Arjeplog, Sweden. The event targets about 100 representatives from 10 European and North American customers. Engineers and purchasing managers are evaluating demo vehicles equipped with the company’s core braking and steering systems in extreme cold conditions.
Highlights
- Hyundai Mobis is demonstrating its next-generation integrated braking system, scheduled for mass production later this year, drawing strong interest from European automakers.
- The Swedish winter testing facility marks its 20th anniversary in 2026, spanning 1.7 million square meters with 14 specialized tracks.
- Approximately 60 projects and more than 80 vehicles are undergoing validation at the site during this year’s January-to-March testing season.
- The supplier secured over $9 billion in global orders last year from automakers outside Hyundai Motor and Kia.
Next-Gen Integrated Braking System Draws European Interest
The showcase centers on new products currently under order discussions or slated for supply. Hyundai Mobis has integrated these components into demo vehicles for on-track evaluation. As a result, the company aims to identify specific customer requirements through real-world driving assessments.
Representatives who recently tested the demo vehicles reported strong satisfaction. European customers, in particular, showed significant interest in the next-generation integrated braking system. That system is scheduled to enter mass production later this year.
Tailored Component Development for Global Customers
Because requirements differ by customer, the company plans to accelerate the supply and development of specialized core components. Additionally, Hyundai Mobis expects the showcase to expand joint pre-development projects ahead of new vehicle launches.
The company is positioning its Swedish facility as proof that its component capabilities are backed by large-scale R&D investment. A rigorous localized quality verification system further supports that effort.
20 Years of Extreme-Cold Validation in Sweden
The Arjeplog testing ground has operated since 2006. It spans roughly 1.7 million square meters and features 14 tracks designed to replicate snow-covered and icy road conditions. A workshop facility on-site enables real-time adjustments based on customer feedback.
Among global automotive suppliers, only a limited number operate dedicated winter testing facilities. Arjeplog sits near major European automakers’ own winter proving grounds. That proximity gives Hyundai Mobis a logistical advantage for customer engagement.
Large-Scale R&D Deployment Each Winter
Every year from January through March, Hyundai Mobis deploys large-scale R&D teams to the site. This year, over 80 vehicles were transported to Sweden for testing. Approximately 60 projects are running on-site simultaneously.
Testing priorities include the following:
- Braking and steering component performance under extreme cold
- Autonomous driving sensor detection accuracy in winter conditions
- Control unit and algorithm verification for systems under development
