What Brakes Does the Ducati Desmo450 SM Use?
The Desmo450 SM pairs a 310 mm (12.2 in) Galfer floating front disc with a 240 mm (9.4 in) Galfer rear disc. According to Galfer, the Floatech floating design helps keep braking response consistent and precise under hard riding conditions.
The company says the setup is designed to deliver the braking power, modulation and control that supermotard riding requires. Ducati describes the model as bringing a racing-oriented approach to the road.
Galfer Across Ducati’s Off-Road Range
The partnership began in motocross and has since expanded model by model. Galfer’s discs on the Desmo450 EDS enduro model brought the relationship into enduro, and the Desmo450 SM now adds supermotard.
| Model | Discipline | Galfer Fitment |
|---|---|---|
| Desmo450 MX | Motocross | Galfer Shark discs, front and rear |

Racing Programs in MXGP and AMA
Beyond production bikes, Galfer supports the Red Bull Ducati Factory MXGP Team in the FIM Motocross World Championship, with riders Andrea Bonacorsi and Calvin Vlaanderen. In the United States, the company also works with the Troy Lee Designs Red Bull Ducati Factory Racing Team, which competes in AMA Supercross and AMA Pro Motocross.
Galfer describes racing as its main test and development environment for braking solutions. The work involves ongoing collaboration with riders, engineers and teams.
V2 Future Champ Ducati Academy
Galfer is also an Official Supplier and Sponsor of the V2 Future Champ Ducati Academy, Ducati’s program for supporting young riders and developing its next generation of racing talent. Through the program, the company provides braking technology developed in top-level competition to riders in their first competitive seasons.
Galfer says the Ducati work reflects its approach of developing braking technology in racing and applying it to production motorcycles across motocross, enduro, supermotard and road applications.
