Ford Recalls SUVs for Brake Issue

Ford Motor Company has announced a recall for specific 2022-2024 Navigator and Expedition vehicles due to a potential brake fluid leak. This issue could compromise front brake function, posing a crash risk for drivers. The recall includes 273,789 vehicles, identified by the NHTSA Campaign Number 25V314000 and Ford’s recall number 25S47. The problem arises when front brake lines contact the engine air cleaner outlet pipe, potentially causing damage and leaks.

Key Highlights:

  • Affected Vehicles: 2022-2024 Ford Expedition and Lincoln Navigator
  • Number of Units Affected: 273,789
  • Issue: Front brake lines may rub against the engine air cleaner outlet pipe, risking a brake fluid leak
  • Risk: Loss of front brake function, increasing crash likelihood
  • Remedy: Free inspection and replacement of brake lines or air cleaner outlet pipe as needed
  • Owner Notification: Letters will be mailed starting May 26, 2025

The defect occurs when front brake lines are bent during engine installation at Ford’s Kentucky Truck Plant. This can lead to contact with the air cleaner outlet pipe, causing wear and eventual fluid leakage. A leak may result in longer brake pedal travel and reduced stopping power, making it harder to stop the vehicle safely. Ford traced the issue to a radiator hose stowage process, corrected on November 20, 2024, meaning vehicles built earlier may be affected.

Ford dealers will inspect the brake lines for proper clearance and routing, replacing components if necessary, at no cost. Notification letters will inform owners to schedule this service. No accidents or injuries have been reported, but Ford urges prompt action. For questions, owners can call Ford customer service at 1-866-436-7332 or check nhtsa.gov. Owners who previously paid for related repairs may qualify for reimbursement. This recall emphasizes the need for timely response to ensure road safety.
