Continental Automotive Sets Independent HQ in Frankfurt

Continental’s Automotive group sector will become a legally independent company and establish its corporate headquarters in Frankfurt am Main by mid-2025. The spin-off, approved by the Supervisory Board last week, marks a strategic shift for the sector, which employs about 4,230 people at its current Guerickestraße site in Frankfurt, working in production, research and development, and administration. This move aligns with Continental’s goal to build a high-performing, globally competitive automotive technology company. Frankfurt’s Mayor Mike Josef praised the decision, noting its positive impact on the city’s economic diversity and resilience.

Key Highlights:

  • Strategic Location: Frankfurt’s selection reinforces Continental’s strong presence in the Rhine-Main region and its push for independence.
  • Company Vision: The new entity will focus on advanced technologies, innovation, and adaptability to market trends.
  • Stock Listing: A stock exchange debut is set for September, a pivotal step in its independent journey.
  • Scale: The sector employs 92,000 people and posted €19.4 billion in sales in 2024.
  • Technological Edge: It excels in sensor solutions, displays, brake systems, and software for future mobility.

The spin-off is a major restructuring for Continental, enabling the Automotive sector to sharpen its focus on cutting-edge automotive technologies and respond swiftly to industry shifts. This independence is poised to boost its standing in the fast-changing mobility landscape, particularly in software-defined and autonomous vehicles.

Philipp von Hirschheydt, Continental Executive Board member and head of the Automotive group sector, said: “We’re creating an independent, high-performing and globally positioned company defined by advanced technologies and innovative strength, a high level of adaptability to market and technology trends and a sharp entrepreneurial mindset. By choosing to locate our corporate headquarters in Frankfurt am Main, we’ve taken a further step toward independence and are underscoring our strong presence in the Rhine-Main region.”

Mayor Mike Josef added: “In these challenging times, location decisions in the industrial sector are important for the stabilization and development of our economy. In particular, with the decision to locate the headquarters of the future independent Automotive group sector in Frankfurt, Continental is strengthening the diversity and thus the resilience of our business location. We warmly welcome the new automotive company.”

This development underscores Frankfurt’s growing role as a hub for innovative automotive companies, while Continental’s Automotive sector positions itself as a leader in the global market.
