Toyota put out the following announcement about a voluntary recall covering certain 2018-2019 Camry sedans which might lose power-brake assist due to a faulty vacuum pump.

PLANO, Texas – Toyota is conducting a safety recall involving certain 2018-2019 model year Camry vehicles in the U.S. Approximately 227,400 vehicles are involved in this recall.

The involved vehicles have a system that provides power brake assist when the driver depresses the brake pedal. Specific components in a part of this system can prematurely wear and could lead to a sudden loss of power braking assist. Non-power assisted braking will remain functional. However, a sudden loss of power braking assist while driving could increase the risk of a crash.

For all involved vehicles, Toyota dealers will inspect the vacuum pump and repair or replace it, free of charge to customers. Owners of involved vehicles will be notified by mid-January 2022.

Information about automotive recalls, including but not limited to the list of involved vehicles, is current as of today’s filing date and is subject to change thereafter.
