Brembo GR-PRO Brings MotoGP Braking Technology to Mountain Bikes

Brembo has launched GR-PRO, a complete mountain bike braking ecosystem derived from its UCI Downhill World Cup program, featuring a forged two-piece caliper, multi-adjustable master cylinder, and World Cup–developed discs.

Brembo has launched GR-PRO, a complete braking ecosystem for mountain bikes that translates the company’s top-level motorsport engineering into a system for all-mountain, downhill, and electric mountain bike (eMTB) applications. The Italian braking specialist unveiled the range on April 16, 2026, following GR-PRO’s competition debut with the Specialized Gravity Team at the UCI Downhill Mountain Bike World Cup. The GR-PRO Kit will be available in Europe starting July 2026.

Highlights

  • Complete braking ecosystem spanning calipers, master cylinders, pads, discs, steel braided hoses, and proprietary mineral oil
  • Two-piece forged caliper with MotoGP-inspired design geometry
  • Master cylinder offers three-stage lever ratio, seven-position dead stroke, and 40-position reach adjustment
  • Stainless steel discs use World Cup–developed braking surface with motorcycle-derived spoke design

Racing Heritage Drives Consumer Product

GR-PRO is derived from Brembo’s active program in the UCI Downhill Mountain Bike World Cup, where its components are already in competition use. The company’s motorsport engineering heritage underpins the new system, with the stated design targets of reliability, control, stability, and consistency carried over from elite competition into a product aimed at aggressive recreational riding.

The ecosystem is positioned to address the specific demands of contemporary eMTBs and gravity bikes. These categories generate higher thermal loads and require greater stopping power than traditional mountain bikes due to increased vehicle mass and elevated average speeds — conditions that stress conventional bicycle brake hardware.

Caliper and Master Cylinder Engineering

The two-piece forged caliper is designed to maximize structural stiffness, which Brembo links to improved braking precision and consistency under repeated heavy use. The styling draws on the visual language of Brembo’s MotoGP components, with compact geometry and finish treatments intended to be immediately identifiable.

The forged master cylinder is the system’s most user-configurable element. It offers three features for rider customization:

  • Lever ratio adjustment: Three settings that change lever feel and modulation characteristics
  • Dead stroke adjustment: Seven positions for fine-tuning the bite point
  • Reach adjustment: 40 positions to accommodate different hand sizes and riding positions

Discs, Pads, and Hydraulic System

Stainless steel brake discs are available in two diameters and use a braking surface developed through Brembo’s World Cup program. The disc spoke design is derived from the company’s motorcycle discs, intended to balance strength, stiffness, and weight. Purpose-developed brake pads, steel braided hoses, and a custom mineral oil formulated at Brembo’s R&D laboratory complete the hydraulic package. Brembo builds on prior moves into performance bicycle braking with this launch.

Kit Contents and Availability

The GR-PRO Kit ships with two calipers pre-fitted with pads, left and right master cylinders, two steel braided hoses, mineral oil, two spare pad kits, and additional small service components. Brake discs are sold separately. The kit launches in the European market in July 2026. Brembo has not published pricing, caliper piston count, disc diameters, weight figures, or confirmation of North American availability.
