Brembo Brakes Tackle Road Atlanta Finale

Brembo brakes face a severe test at the Road Atlanta season finale. This article details the track's technical challenges, key braking data, and the advanced technology on display.

The IMSA WeatherTech Sports Car Championship concludes its season at the iconic Road Atlanta for the Motul Petit Le Mans. The 2.54-mile, 12-turn circuit presents a significant challenge for braking systems due to its high-energy zones, sweeping elevation changes like the famous “Esses,” and the grueling 10-hour race duration.

Key Highlights

  • Braking Difficulty Rating: 4/5
  • Toughest Braking Zone: Turn 10
  • Braking Zones Per Lap: 6
  • Peak Brake Temperature: 1,472 °F

Turn 10 Challenges

The most demanding braking point on the circuit is Turn 10, a medium-speed chicane that drivers enter after the longest straightaway. Drivers in the premier GTP class must reduce their speed from 190 mph to 70 mph, a deceleration that generates 3G of force and causes brake disc temperatures to spike to 1,472 °F. In the same braking zone, GTD cars will generate 2.5G.

Brakes on Display

At Petit Le Mans, Brembo brake technology will be highly visible both on and off the track. As the race continues into the night, fans can see brake discs glowing red-hot in the circuit’s most intense braking zones.

In the fan zone, Brembo will feature an activation showcasing various brake systems used across IMSA. A highlight will be the all-new LMGT3 system, which will be available to cars in the GTD class for the 2026 season. This new system features redesigned forged calipers with relief ports to maximize stiffness and reduce weight, along with new ventilation ducting for improved cooling. The display will also include brake systems from other premier series, such as F1 and MotoGP, as well as aftermarket and OEM products.

50 Years in Motorsport

Brembo is also celebrating a significant milestone: 50 years in racing. The company’s journey in motorsport began in 1975 with Scuderia Ferrari in Formula 1 and has since led to countless innovations and over 700 championship titles.

Brembo’s Extensive IMSA Partnership

As the official Braking Technology Partner of IMSA, Brembo is a key supplier for teams across the sanctioning body’s eight series and 16 classes. At Motul Petit Le Mans, the majority of vehicles in the WeatherTech Sports Car Championship and Michelin Pilot Challenge use either a full Brembo system or its components. Furthermore, all vehicles competing in the Porsche Carrera Cup and Mazda Miata Cup are equipped with full Brembo brake systems.
