The 2024 BMW X2 has been honored with the TOP SAFETY PICK award from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS), thanks to its exceptional ratings in crashworthiness and crash avoidance. The redesigned small SUV stands out with its comprehensive safety features, making it a top choice for safety-conscious drivers.

Qualifying Criteria for TOP SAFETY PICK:

  • Crashworthiness: The 2024 BMW X2 achieved good ratings in several crash tests, including the small overlap front, original moderate overlap front, and updated side tests.
  • Pedestrian Front Crash Prevention: The vehicle earned an acceptable or good rating in the pedestrian front crash prevention evaluation.
  • Headlights: The X2 comes equipped with acceptable or good-rated headlights across all trim levels, a crucial criterion for the award.

Safety Features:

  • The 2024 redesign introduced a single type of headlight for all trims, which earned a good rating in the IIHS test.
  • The SUV’s standard front crash prevention system also received a good rating in the pedestrian test, further enhancing its safety profile.

Despite its strong performance, the X2 did not qualify for the TOP SAFETY PICK+ award because it has not yet undergone the updated moderate overlap test. This higher-tier award necessitates a good or acceptable rating in the updated test, which includes a second dummy in the back seat to simulate rear passenger safety.

The 2024 BMW X2 demonstrates a robust commitment to safety with its advanced crash prevention systems and high ratings in key IIHS evaluations. While it falls short of the TOP SAFETY PICK+ award due to pending tests, it remains a leading choice for consumers prioritizing vehicle safety.
