AUMOVIO Unveils Advanced Trailer Assistance Systems

AUMOVIO introduces advanced trailer assistance systems debuting at CES 2026, featuring automated reversing and real-time collision warnings to enhance safety and maneuverability for towing vehicles.

AUMOVIO has announced two new advanced assistance functions designed to improve safety and maneuverability for vehicles towing trailers. Set to debut at CES 2026, these systems address common challenges associated with reversing, turning, and parking while towing. The technology leverages existing sensors to automate complex maneuvers and prevent collisions with obstacles or pedestrians.

Highlights

  • Automated Reversing: New backtrack function automatically returns the vehicle and trailer to their starting position.
  • Collision Prevention: Real-time warnings prevent jackknifing and collisions with obstacles during turns.
  • Market Availability: Both systems debut at CES 2026 and are expected to launch in 2027.
  • Sensor Integration: Utilizes existing surround-view cameras and radar to calculate safe paths.

Automated Reversing Capabilities

Reversing a trailer remains one of the most difficult maneuvers for drivers, particularly in tight spaces. AUMOVIO’s new reversing aid builds upon its existing Trailer Reverse Assist technology. The system allows drivers to return the vehicle-trailer combination to its original starting position at the touch of a button.

This functionality is particularly useful when a driver attempts to park or maneuver but misses the ideal angle of approach. Instead of manual correction, which often worsens the position, the system automatically retraces the forward path. The driver initiates the maneuver via a button, and the system handles the steering to ensure the trailer follows the optimal line back to the start.

Enhanced Collision Warning

The second system addresses the risks associated with the disparate turning circles of vehicles and trailers. When turning or cornering, the trailer’s path often differs from the towing vehicle, creating “blind spots” where collisions can occur.

This new collision warning system operates during reversing, starting off, and passing. It specifically mitigates:

  • Jackknifing: Prevents the rear corner of the vehicle from colliding with the front of the trailer due to tight turn angles.
  • Obstacle Detection: Identifies pedestrians, curbs, and parked vehicles that may be in the trailer’s path.

The system utilizes the vehicle’s surround-view cameras and optional radar sensors to monitor the environment in real time. A path overlay on the driver’s display visually indicates if the current steering angle will result in a collision.

Expanding the Trailer Portfolio

AUMOVIO continues to expand its suite of towing solutions, targeting the North American market where pickup trucks and recreational towing are prevalent. The company currently offers a range of intelligent trailer functions, including:

  • Coupling Assist: Simplifies the connection process between vehicle and trailer.
  • Transparent Trailer: An award-winning feature that provides a “see-through” view of the area behind the trailer.
  • Launch Assist: Automates the process of launching boats.

“Anyone who has to reverse with a trailer will appreciate an intelligent assistance system,” stated Ibro Muharemovic, Head of the Autonomous Mobility business area in North America at AUMOVIO.

AUMOVIO, an independent company following its spin-off from Continental in September 2025, reported sales of 19.6 billion Euro in fiscal year 2024. The company employs over 86,000 people across more than 100 locations worldwide.
