The Sturm Group has successfully delivered the first Advanced Disc Coating System (ADCS) line to a customer, marking a significant milestone. This new production line integrates cutting-edge technology, including a 22 kW laser for brake disc coating and the Disc Inspector (DI) measurement system, ensuring optimal quality control. The line also includes a grinding machine to perfect the discs’ surface.

Key Highlights:

  • 22 kW Laser Coating: The ADCS uses a powerful 22 kW laser to enhance brake disc surfaces with material-specific properties, ensuring durability and performance.
  • Precision Measurement with Disc Inspector (DI): The ADCS-DI system measures brake discs during various stages—uncoated, coated, and ground—to ensure adherence to precise geometric and characteristic specifications. The spatially resolved thickness of each coating layer is meticulously recorded. For each process step, features such as warpage, axial run-out, layer thickness and other geometries are measured according to customer requirements.
  • Collaborative Success: A collaborative effort between partners, GTV Verschleißschutz GmbH and a grinding partner, contributed to the system’s success, alongside the dedicated Sturm Group team.
  • Technical center: All parameters were previously developed and released in the in-house technical center. For prototypes, serial machines and technical questions you can contact Marco Janker or Roland Baier [Sturm-Gruppe]
  • Media Support: tap Media GmbH provided video support, capturing the journey from the project’s start to the handover of the ADCS line.

This milestone demonstrates the Sturm Group’s commitment to innovation in surface technology and automation.
