BMW has announced a safety recall for approximately 26 units of its 2025 X3 30 xDrive model due to potential damage to the front brake discs sustained during the supply chain transport process. This damage could compromise the vehicle’s braking performance, thereby increasing the risk of a crash.
Key Highlights
- Recall Details: Affects 2025 BMW X3 30 xDrive vehicles manufactured on February 19, 2025.
- Issue Identified: Front brake discs may have been damaged during transport.
- Safety Risk: Potential reduction in braking performance, increasing crash risk.
- Remedy: Replacement of front brake discs and brake pads at no cost to owners.
- Owner Notification: By First Class mail, with instructions to visit an authorized BMW dealer for repairs.
The issue was first identified on February 20, 2025, during a routine quality check at a BMW assembly plant. An acoustic abnormality was detected in the area of the front brake disc of a 2025 BMW X3 xDrive 30. Initially considered an isolated case, a similar issue was reported at a BMW center on March 24, 2025, prompting an engineering investigation. The investigation revealed that the front brake discs on these vehicles may have been damaged during transportation, leading to the potential for reduced braking performance.
BMW has confirmed that the recall affects vehicles manufactured on February 19, 2025, and that approximately 26 vehicles are potentially involved. The company has not received any reports of accidents or injuries related to this issue.
As a remedy, BMW will replace the front brake discs and brake pads on the affected vehicles at no cost to the owners. The replacement parts are identified by part number 8831512-01. Owners will be notified by First Class mail and instructed to take their vehicle to an authorized BMW dealer to have the necessary repairs performed.
Upon discovering the issue, BMW promptly initiated an investigation, working closely with the supplier, ZF Foxconn Chassis Modules, to determine the root cause. It was found that the damage likely occurred during the transport of the brake discs, and supplier production records did not indicate any manufacturing defects. BMW has since taken steps to ensure that such damage does not occur in future shipments.
Owners who have already had their vehicles inspected or repaired for this issue under the BMW New Vehicle Limited Warranty program will not be eligible for reimbursement, as the remedy would have been covered under warranty.
BMW plans to notify dealers about the recall on April 16, 2025, and owner notifications are scheduled to begin on June 6, 2025. For more information, owners can contact BMW customer service at 1-800-525-7417.
