Zimmermann Discs Perfect for Taxis

SINSHEIM-DÜHREN, Germany – Otto Zimmermann brake discs are in design and quality as close to the original equipment as possible. The high-quality, durable steel hub brake discs are suitable, among others, for E-Class Mercedes and are therefore in high demand for the taxicab industry.

The use of Formula:S brake discs has a positive effect on both the safety and comfort of drivers and passengers. Thus, the aftermarket spare part is also economically extremely interesting for cab entrepreneurs and fleet operators.

Depending on the reference, the Formula:S brake discs are designed with a hub in plain version or with beads. Both hub types offer the advantage of weight reduction compared to a single piece cast disc. In addition to the CO2 savings, this weight reduction leads to better driving performance, optimized grip and thus significantly better driver control of the vehicle.

Since Mercedes original-equipment (OE) brake discs are patent-protected, Zimmermann has developed its own technology to offer the aftermarket a solution for these vehicles as well.

Formula:S is, like the OE disc, a compound brake disc consisting of a steel hub and a cast iron friction ring. The steel hub is connected to the friction ring by a special process. The Formula:S materials used for both the cast friction ring and the steel hub are OE-comparable quality, as is the design of the ventilation channel.

The ventilation channel, which is designed with pillars, leads to optimized cooling of the disc. The use of high-carbon cast iron for the friction rings ensures increased thermal conductivity and faster cooling.

The tests on Zimmermann´s own brake test benches were passed entirely, so that all discs have ECE approvals. During the tests, it was noticeable that the Zimmermann disc showed less warping than the competitor disc.

The cast friction rings are sourced from a German foundry that has been manufacturing products made from recycled materials since 1953. Thus, in addition to high functional reliability, a very high level of environmental responsibility can be guaranteed for the Formula:S brake disc.

The range of Formula:S compound discs is constantly being expanded so newer Mercedes vehicles can be equipped with them. The discs will soon be available for other vehicles which use steel hub brake disc.

Overview of the advantages of Formula:S Brake Discs:

  • Steel hub and cast friction ring
  • Special connection technique of steel hub and friction ring
  • Weight saving and therefore reduced unsprung mass
  • Better braking performance – less warping
  • Coat Z-coated
  • Range is available worldwide
  • Different brake surface options: plain, cross-drilled
