ZF Empowers Workshops with Smart Camera

ZF Aftermarket has introduced a groundbreaking solution for the automotive repair industry with the launch of the ZF Smart Camera, a state-of-the-art component for driver assistance systems. This innovation marks a significant advancement for independent workshops, enabling them to repair and replace front cameras—a task previously limited to original parts from car manufacturers. As driver assistance systems become increasingly essential due to new regulations and technological advancements, this development positions independent workshops as key players in maintaining modern vehicles.

Key Highlights:

  • ZF Aftermarket launches the ZF Smart Camera for driver assistance systems.
  • The camera allows independent workshops to perform repairs and replacements of front cameras.
  • EU regulations have mandated driver assistance systems in all new cars since July 2024.
  • ZF is the world’s largest supplier of front cameras, producing over ten million units annually.
  • The ZF Smart Camera is available in ten versions, compatible with more than 50 vehicle models.
  • ZF Aftermarket provides a complete ADAS ecosystem, including diagnostic tools and training.

The rise of driver assistance systems has accelerated since July 2024, when EU regulations made features like Automatic Emergency Brake Assist, Intelligent Speed Assist, and Lane Departure Warning mandatory in all new cars. These systems depend on front cameras to operate effectively. ZF, the world’s leading supplier of front cameras, produces over ten million units each year for 14 car manufacturers. With most European vehicles expected to feature these cameras within the next decade, the need for repair services is growing rapidly.

Until now, independent workshops struggled to service these systems due to limited access to spare parts. The ZF Smart Camera changes that by offering a high-quality, OEM-level solution that meets manufacturers’ standards. Comprising ZF’s proprietary hardware and software, it ensures driver assistance systems remain fully functional post-repair.

Initially available in ten versions, the ZF Smart Camera supports over 50 vehicle models, including popular brands from the Stellantis Group (Citroën, DS, Peugeot, Opel) and Nissan. ZF Aftermarket plans to expand this range soon.

Beyond the camera, ZF Aftermarket provides a comprehensive ADAS ecosystem, featuring diagnostic tools like ZF MultiScan software and calibration walls for precise sensor adjustments. Workshops can also access training through the ZF [pro]Tech workshop concept, equipping technicians to become ADAS experts.

Markus Wittig, Global Head of Business Line Passenger Car at ZF Aftermarket, stated, “With our expanded ADAS offering, we aim to maximize uptime and add value for our customers through innovative products, tools, and training.” This holistic approach enhances vehicle uptime for customers and boosts workshop productivity, ensuring they stay competitive in a fast-evolving industry.
