Volkswagen Group Australia Pty Ltd has announced a recall for the SKODA Superb and Octavia models manufactured between 2020 and 2024, citing a critical safety issue. The recall, identified by number REC-005899 and campaign number 47U5, affects approximately 3,801 units across all variants of the specified models. The core concern revolves around a manufacturing defect related to the heat shield positioning between the brake master cylinder and the exhaust system.

This defect may lead to improper fitting of the heat shield, posing a significant risk as the brake fluid reservoir’s connection could melt. The consequence of such a scenario is twofold: there’s a potential for brake fluid to leak, leading to diminished braking performance, and an elevated risk of vehicle fire if the fluid comes into contact with the hot exhaust. The implications of these hazards are severe, with an increased likelihood of accidents, which could result in serious injuries or fatalities to both vehicle occupants and bystanders, alongside possible property damage.

Owners of the affected SKODA Superb and Octavia models are advised to take immediate action by contacting their nearest Volkswagen dealership. The company promises a thorough inspection and necessary rectifications at no cost to the vehicle owner. For further assistance or information, affected parties can reach out to Skoda Australia through their dedicated phone line at 1800 607 540, email at [email protected], or via their official website.

The recall is overseen by the Department of Infrastructure, Transport, Regional Development, Communications and the Arts, ensuring compliance and safety for all involved. This proactive measure by Volkswagen Group Australia and SKODA aims to mitigate risks and uphold their commitment to customer safety and satisfaction.
