- Models affected: 2019–2020 Acura ILX
- Issue: Sudden loss of braking force without warning
- Reports received: 4 VOQs and several field reports
- Action: NHTSA Preliminary Evaluation (PE25015) underway
The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration’s (NHTSA) Office of Defects Investigation (ODI) has opened a Preliminary Evaluation (PE25015) into reports of loss of braking performance in 2019–2020 Acura ILX vehicles.
Consumers reported instances where the brake pedal traveled to the floor with minimal resistance, resulting in a significant loss of braking force. Crucially, no warning or indication of the issue occurred before failure, according to Vehicle Owner Questionnaires (VOQs) and field reports submitted to the agency.
The 2020 Acura ILX is included in the investigation due to its shared hydraulic brake system design with the 2019 model. A malfunction of this system could lead to extended stopping distances, increasing the risk of a crash and potential injury or property damage.
NHTSA’s ODI is conducting the evaluation to determine the scope, frequency, and safety implications of the potential defect. To review the full list of ODI reports and supporting documents, visit NHTSA.gov.
