Tenneco has introduced the second-generation Jurid® 847 2.0 LL brake block, an innovation aimed at reducing the lifecycle costs (LCC) of rail freight wagons. Designed to improve wheel longevity and efficiency, this new brake block features optimized design elements and is built on feedback from customers. It retains the UIC homologation of its predecessor, making it a superior choice for operators seeking to reduce wheel servicing costs. Additionally, the Jurid 847 2.0 LL block supports environmental compliance by offering a quieter alternative to cast iron brake blocks.

Key Highlights:

  • Second-generation Jurid® 847 2.0 LL brake block improves wheel servicing costs for rail freight wagons.
  • Optimized block shape and contact surface enhance performance and extend service life.
  • Retains UIC homologation of the previous generation, ensuring regulatory compliance.
  • Environmental benefits include a quieter, more sustainable alternative to cast iron brake blocks.
  • Customer-driven improvements make this block superior in terms of both technical performance and cost-efficiency.
  • Tenneco continues its tradition of innovation with the Jurid brand, setting a new benchmark for rail freight braking solutions.

Tenneco has developed the Jurid 847 2.0 LL brake block in response to customer demand for better cost-efficiency and longevity in rail freight operations. With its optimized shape and improved block-to-wheel contact surface, this new brake block significantly reduces the wear and tear on wagon wheels, which are among the most expensive components to service.

Piero Bruno, Group Vice President and General Manager of Braking at Tenneco, emphasized the cost-saving advantages of the new block: “Wheels are the costliest freight wagon service component, so by helping extend their life, the Jurid 847 2.0 LL brake block provides our customers with a valuable competitive advantage.”

The Jurid 847 2.0 LL block is compliant with UIC regulations, making it a viable one-to-one replacement for cast iron brake blocks. Beyond cost savings, it provides a quieter, more environmentally friendly alternative to its cast iron counterparts, which aligns with stricter environmental standards.

Holger Schaus, Vice President Global OE Engineering Braking at Tenneco, further commented: “Due to our close collaboration with customers, we have been able to proactively address market needs through the development of the Jurid 847 2.0 LL block.” This collaborative approach has allowed Tenneco to create a product that not only meets but exceeds the performance of both the previous generation Jurid 847 LL block and competitor offerings.
