Toyota Motor Engineering & Manufacturing has issued a recall for a small number of 2024 Toyota RAV4 and 2025 Lexus NX vehicles due to improperly tightened bolts on the front brake caliper and wheel hub bearing. The defect can lead to brake fluid leaks or wheel detachment, significantly increasing the risk of accidents. Affected owners will be notified starting January 20, 2025.

Key Highlights:

  • Affected Vehicles: 2024 Toyota RAV4 and 2025 Lexus NX.
  • Potential Risk: Loose bolts may cause brake fluid leaks or wheel detachment, increasing crash risks.
  • Remedy Details: Dealers will inspect and tighten bolts free of charge, replacing damaged components if necessary.
  • Notification Timeline: Owners will receive letters starting January 20, 2025.

The recall affects an estimated 70 vehicles manufactured during a limited production period on September 6, 2024. The issue stems from a backup bolt-tightening process used at a specific facility, which may result in loose front brake caliper mounting bracket bolts and hub bearing bolts. This defect can lead to:

  • Abnormal noise or vibration from the front axle.
  • Brake fluid leakage from stressed brake hoses, increasing stopping distances.
  • Wheel separation, resulting in potential loss of control.

Toyota has outlined the corrective measures in its recall plan. Dealers will inspect and ensure that the front brake caliper mounting bracket bolts and hub bearing bolts are tightened to the proper specifications. Any damaged parts will be replaced at no cost to the owner. Owners can contact Toyota customer service at 1-800-331-4331 or the NHTSA Vehicle Safety Hotline at 1-888-327-4236 for further information.

The recall has been assigned NHTSA Campaign Number 24V911000, and Toyota has referenced internal recall numbers 24TA14 and 24LA08. Dealer notifications began on December 5, 2024, and owner notifications will follow in January and February of 2025.
