DETROIT – General Motors has agreed to recall certain model-year 2022 GMC Sierra 1500 and Chevrolet Silverado 1500 full-size pickup trucks equipped with accessory sport bars which might have defective rear-facing brake lights.

The 242 pickup trucks within the recall population might have the dealer-installed accessory which could be in violation of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard (FMVSS) No, 108, “Lamps, reflective devices, and associated equipment.”

According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) Part 573 Safety Recall Report 22V-463, “These vehicles may have been equipped at delivery with a dealer installed accessory sport bar that (a) contains a high-mounted stop lamp that will not operate when installed according to the provided instructions and (b) blocks the vehicle’s existing high-mounted stop lamp.”

The agency identified the safety risk as visual blockage of the high-mounted stop lamp might lead to a crash.

The cause is incorrect installation instructions for the accessory sport bar. The remedy is a replacement wiring kit/instructions for repair at a franchised dealership.
