International Motors, LLC has launched a recall of certain truck models due to a critical safety issue with the brake system. The recall targets 153 units of 2024 HV, 2020-2025 MV, and 2019 Workstar 7400 trucks, where the brake caliper may interfere with suspension components. This malfunction could disable the outer brake pad, leading to longer stopping distances and a heightened crash risk. Owners will receive notification letters starting May 19, 2025, and dealers will provide free repairs to resolve the issue.
Key Highlights:
- Affected Models: 2024 HV, 2020-2025 MV, and 2019 Workstar 7400 trucks
- Number of Units Affected: 153
- Defect: Brake caliper may contact suspension spring or axle U-bolt, impairing outer brake pad function
- Safety Risk: Increased stopping distance, elevating crash risk
- Remedy: Dealers will switch left and right rear air disc brake calipers, replace rear brake torque plates, and replace brake pads
- Owner Notification Date: May 19, 2025
- Contact Information: International customer service: 1-800-448-7825; NHTSA Vehicle Safety Hotline: 888-327-4236 (TTY 888-275-9171) or www.nhtsa.gov
The problem stems from the rear brake calipers on these trucks. As brake pads wear naturally over time, the caliper may rub against the suspension spring or axle U-bolt. This interference restricts the caliper’s movement, limiting braking force to the inner pad alone. In demanding braking scenarios, this can significantly reduce stopping power, posing a serious safety hazard to drivers and others on the road.
To fix the issue, dealers will undertake a comprehensive repair process. They will swap the positions of the left and right rear air disc brake calipers, install new rear brake torque plates, and replace the brake pads—all at no cost to owners. International Motors assures that these steps will restore proper brake function and eliminate the safety concern.
Owners should await the official notification letter, scheduled for mailing on May 19, 2025, which will outline how to arrange repairs with a local dealer. If unusual braking issues arise beforehand, owners are urged to contact International customer service at 1-800-448-7825. Additional support is available through the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) Vehicle Safety Hotline at 888-327-4236 (TTY 888-275-9171) or online at www.nhtsa.gov. The NHTSA campaign number is 25V178000, and International’s recall number is 25501.
For those who may have already paid for related repairs, International Motors offers a reimbursement plan. Instructions for seeking reimbursement will accompany the notification letters, ensuring affected owners are not financially burdened by this defect. This recall underscores the company’s commitment to addressing safety risks promptly and effectively.
