General Motors, LLC (GM) is recalling certain 2013-2019 Chevrolet Express Cutaway and GMC Savana Cutaway vehicles equipped with optional GM-provided body mounts, identified by the Regular Production Option (RPO) code BNC. The brake lines in these vehicles may have insufficient clearance from the body mounts, potentially causing wear or damage to the brake lines that can result in a brake fluid leak.

A brake fluid leak can lead to reduced stopping performance or even inoperative service brakes, thereby increasing the risk of a crash. Drivers may notice evidence of a fluid leak, such as fluid on the ground, before experiencing a significant reduction in brake performance.

The recall involves approximately 18,325 vehicles, with an estimated one percent expected to have the defect. Specifically, 11,966 Chevrolet Express Cutaway vehicles produced between November 19, 2012, and August 20, 2019, and 6,359 GMC Savana Cutaway vehicles produced between November 20, 2012, and August 5, 2019, are included in the recall.

GM dealers will inspect the brake lines and replace them if necessary, at no cost to the owners. Owner notification letters are expected to be mailed starting November 4, 2024. Owners can contact Chevrolet customer service at 1-800-222-1020 or GMC customer service at 1-800-462-8782 for more information. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) Vehicle Safety Hotline is also available at 1-888-327-4236 (TTY 1-800-424-9153), or online at www.nhtsa.gov.

GM is not aware of any crashes or injuries related to this condition. The issue was identified following information provided by Transport Canada regarding incidents of brake line wear or damage due to contact with body mounts on upfitted vehicles. GM opened a product investigation on June 26, 2024, and decided to conduct a safety recall on September 12, 2024.

Under the recall remedy program, dealers will ensure that replaced brake lines provide sufficient clearance to the body mounts to prevent future wear or damage.
