WHITE PLAINS, N.Y. – GALT, an ITT startup, has gone “live” with a well-conceived, well-designed website providing a quick overview of its Smart Pad, considered the first brake pad with embedded sensors to provide dynamic data, technology.

First unveiled in 2019 and reported in The BRAKE Report, by ITT, the Smart Pad is a first-of-its-kind sensor-embedded and connected brake pad that transforms the ubiquitous friction technology from passive automotive components into an active system that collects real-time data to improve driving safety and efficiency.

According to the new website, GALT’s vision for this technology is: “There is a world of data available in cars today, yet almost nothing is gathered from brakes. GALT., an ITT startup, was born to change that. And this is what we do: digitalize brake pads to provide drivers with a whole new level of safety, performance, and awareness. Let’s get ready for a new kind of driving experience.”

One of the examples cited is being able to determine pad temperatures in real time and alert the driver with a message in the instrument cluster (as shown in the image at the top of this post).

Overheating can be a result of worn pads. Smart Pads monitor residual pad life, thus helping avoid this condition before it happens.

The website provides graphic and short-text background on the technology and potential of Smart Pads with the promise of more information to follow.
