Fras-le to Present on Sustainability at Rail Conference

CAXIAS DO SUL, Brazil – Fras-le, a Frasle Mobility brand and world leader in friction materials will be participating later this month in the 12th International Heavy Haul Conference (IHHA), an international transport conference focused on the railway segment.

In addition to presenting solutions for the segment, Fras-le is also one of the sponsors of the meeting in Rio de Janeiro, which expects to attract 120 organizations from more than 30 countries for debates and presentations around the theme “Application of Heavy Transport Innovations for a Sustainable World.”

Rail freight transport in Brazil comprises a network of 30,129 kilometers providing an efficient and economical means to supply a country of continental dimensions. The challenges for the segment involve the development of competitive solutions aligned with sustainability. The conference will seek to discuss alternatives for reducing the carbon footprint and emissions of other greenhouse gases.

In this way, Fras-le will exhibit initiatives for the decarbonization of processes and products, focusing on the manufacture of the railway shoe – a project started in 2022 by the company that sought to calculate the carbon footprint of the product based on the NBR ISO 14,044 and ISO 14,040 methodologies.

The analysis led to changes in the manufacturing process and part formulation. As a result, it was possible to reduce the product’s carbon footprint by 43%. The success of the railway shoe case allowed Fras-le to expand studies for the decarbonization of other products and manufacturing processes.

Fras-le has been operating in the rail segment for over 20 years and has the capacity to serve this market with new products and the improvement of existing solutions, with a focus on performance and sustainability. For this, it has one of the largest Research and Development Centers in Latin America, for structural analysis of all components of a wagon or locomotive.

IHHA Rio 2023 will take place from the 27th to the 31st of August at the Windsor Convention & Hotels Center in Rio de Janeiro.
