Chrysler (FCA US, LLC) has issued a safety recall for certain 2024 plug-in hybrid electric vehicles due to a potential mechanical failure in the braking system. The campaign covers nearly 6,000 units that may possess a brake pedal assembly susceptible to collapse during operation.
Highlights
- Models Affected: The recall applies to 2024 Dodge Hornet and Alfa Romeo Tonale PHEVs.
- Defect: The brake pedal arm may collapse during braking, preventing activation.
- Context: This action expands the population of the previous recall 24V-752.
- Remedy: Technicians will reinforce the pedal assembly with a bolt and nut.
Affected Vehicle Population
The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) acknowledges 5,974 potentially involved vehicles in this campaign. The recall targets specific production windows for two light vehicle models manufactured by FCA US.
The specific breakdown of affected vehicles includes:
- 2024 Alfa Romeo Tonale PHEV: 2,688 units produced between February 23, 2023, and February 14, 2024.
- 2024 Dodge Hornet PHEV: 3,286 units produced between February 10, 2023, and December 21, 2023.
Vehicles built after July 11, 2024, or those already included in NHTSA recall 24V-752 are not involved in this specific action.
Defect Description and Safety Implications
The defect involves a brake pedal arm that may collapse during normal braking application. If this failure occurs, the driver may be unable to activate the service brakes, increasing the risk of a crash without prior warning.
Despite the loss of the service brake pedal, other systems remain functional. The Electronic Park Brake on the center console can be used to slow the vehicle to a controlled stop. Additionally, the Automatic Emergency Braking system will intervene if it detects an imminent collision.
Chronology and Incident Reports
FCA US previously filed recall 24V-752 for similar issues on October 9, 2024. The company later received field complaints in October and November 2025 regarding collapsed pedals in Europe and North America.
Following an investigation opened on November 20, 2025, the Stellantis Europe Control Tower reviewed supplier data to determine the suspect period. As of November 24, 2025, the manufacturer is aware of one accident and zero injuries related to this issue.
Remedy Program and Schedule
FCA US will implement a remedy requiring dealers to reinforce the existing brake pedal arm by adding a bolt and a nut. This repair will be performed free of charge, and the manufacturer has a reimbursement plan on file.
Key dates for the recall schedule include:
- Dealer Notification: Scheduled for December 16, 2025.
- VIN Search Availability: Expected on December 16, 2025.
- Owner Notification: Letters will be mailed on or about January 13, 2026.
