Bendix (Australia) has revealed the unique capabilities of its truck brake dynamometer, located at its Ballarat, Victoria, facility. This machine, the only one of its kind in Australia and one of the few in the Asia Pacific region, plays a crucial role in developing and testing heavy vehicle friction materials tailored for Australian conditions. It ensures that Bendix products meet the highest standards of performance, safety, and durability.
Key Highlights:
- Exclusive Testing Capability: Bendix’s truck brake dynamometer is the only one in Australia, enabling unique testing for heavy vehicles.
- Advanced Development and Testing: The machine is used to develop new friction materials and test products such as ProTrans™ HD, ProTrans™ Disc Pads, ProTrans™ Brake Shoes, and ProTrans™ Brake Linings.
- Versatile Testing Range: Capable of simulating axle loads up to 20 tonnes, it can test a wide range of large vehicles, from four-wheel-drives to road-train prime movers.
- Real-World Conditions: An adjustable air-cooling system replicates airflow, ensuring realistic operating conditions during testing.
- Comprehensive Testing Process: Testing includes wear testing, which takes 10 to 12 days, and performance testing across various conditions, such as temperature, pressure, and brake fade.
- Strict Compliance Standards: The machine adheres to international and local test standards, including the US-based FMVSS121 test.
The dynamometer’s ability to simulate real-world conditions is invaluable for ensuring that Bendix’s commercial vehicle brake components, such as ProTrans™ HD, Disc Pads, Brake Shoes, and Brake Linings, deliver reliable and long-lasting performance. The rigorous testing process involves temperatures ranging from 100 to 450 degrees Celsius, with brake applications varying between 500 and 1000 stops per temperature interval.
Bendix’s commitment to high-quality, reliable braking performance is evident in the extensive testing conducted on this state-of-the-art machine. By controlling every aspect of the testing and compliance parameters, Bendix ensures that its friction materials meet stringent standards, providing customers with safe, durable, and effective brake solutions for heavy vehicles.
