UK: Textar and IMI Partner for Second Year

26 September 2018 – Premium brake brand Textar and IMI will partner again, as Textar has continued to support the IMI Outstanding Achievers Award and the Skill Auto 2019 competition for the second year running.

The awards celebrate young talent within the industry, whereas the competition can be
entered by students and apprentices studying towards level three in automotive
technology, body repair, refinishing and heavy vehicle engineering. The aim of the
competition is to nurture young talent and to find the best budding mechanics within the
UK.

As well as sponsoring the competition, Textar offers hands-on experience to the students by
hosting informative training talks and college visits. Last year, members of the Textar team
also helped to judge the Skill Auto brake task at Henry Ford College.

Commenting on Textar’s involvement in the competition, David Massie MIMI, Skills
Competition Manager, said: “We would not be able to deliver the high standard of
competition expected from us without the support from organisations like Textar which
brings specialist knowledge and expertise, helping us ensure we are following the latest
procedures and practices in the challenges we set our competitors. The Skill Auto team is
very grateful for the enthusiasm from people like Scott Irwin and his colleagues who have
been outstanding in their commitment, not only to the competitions, but to enhancing the
whole experience for all participants.”

Scott Irwin, Textar’s Technical Manager, added: “We have thoroughly enjoyed working with
the IMI over the years. The team is incredibly dedicated to helping aspiring mechanics,
which is something we are very passionate about as a company. Student mechanics are the
future of the industry, so it’s important that they learn the correct techniques and best
practice to keep themselves, and drivers, safe in the workshop and out on the road.”

Textar also contributes to The IMI’s student portal, a resource for young mechanics to learn
more about mechanical tasks, along with the technical processes and best practice that
underpins them.

Steve Nash, Chief Executive at the IMI concluded: “The Outstanding Achievers Award
recognises and celebrates the growing talent of outstanding individuals within the motor
industry and the world-class training being delivered across the UK. We are delighted to
have sponsorship support from Textar, as well as its support in the Skill Auto competition,
and look forward to welcoming all our guests and the finalists to Fanshaws in October to
reveal the winners of the awards.”
