Pro-Cut Video Highlights Rotor Repair Savings

A new video from Pro-Cut™ titled “Repair, Don’t Replace” highlights the financial advantages service centers can gain by repairing brake rotors instead of replacing them. The demonstration underscores significant savings for shops, improved customer retention, and environmental benefits.

Key Highlights:

  • 75% of discarded rotors found in one service center could be successfully repaired.
  • Repairing rotors helps reduce waste and environmental impact.
  • Machining rotors provides shops an opportunity to increase profit margins and customer retention.

The video showcases Pro-Cut representatives visiting a five-bay automotive shop near the company’s headquarters in Lebanon, New Hampshire. Upon inspection, they found 26 discarded brake rotors in the shop’s dumpster. After evaluation, they determined that 20 of these rotors—more than three-quarters—could be effectively repaired and returned to service.

Jeff Hastings, president of Pro-Cut, emphasized the wastefulness and financial loss associated with prematurely disposing of brake rotors. Hastings stated, “Each day repair facilities throw away thousands of dollars’ worth of rotors that could be serviced and saved. It is a practice that negatively impacts their businesses, their customers and the environment.”

By machining the rotors using a Pro-Cut brake lathe, the shop was able to recover lost revenue and offer more competitive pricing. Hastings explained further, “The shop can more than cover the margin lost from not selling new rotors by charging a nominal machining fee, and the lower brake service quotes to customers will greatly improve close rates and customer retention.”
