Mazda Tops 2024 IIHS Safety Awards

Mazda has closed 2024 on a high note, securing eight IIHS TOP SAFETY PICK+ awards, the most by any brand this year. The 2025 Mazda CX-70 and CX-70 Plug-in Hybrid (PHEV) both achieved the coveted 2024 TOP SAFETY PICK+ rating, highlighting Mazda’s ongoing commitment to vehicle safety. Additionally, the 2025 CX-50 retained its TOP SAFETY PICK+ status after updates to its pedestrian crash prevention system earned it a higher rating in testing.

  • Models receiving the TOP SAFETY PICK+ award include:
    • 2024-2025 Mazda3 Sedan and Hatchback
    • 2024-2025 CX-30
    • 2024-2025 CX-90 and CX-90 PHEV
    • 2025 CX-70 and CX-70 PHEV
  • The updated 2025 CX-50 earned a higher rating in pedestrian front crash prevention after retesting.

Stricter Criteria for 2024 Awards

To qualify for the 2024 TOP SAFETY PICK+ award, vehicles must meet stringent safety criteria:

  • Crashworthiness: Good ratings in small overlap front and updated side impact tests.
  • Back seat safety: An acceptable or good rating in the updated moderate overlap front crash test.
  • Pedestrian safety: An acceptable or good rating in pedestrian front crash prevention.
  • Headlight quality: Acceptable or good-rated headlights across all trims.
