Hyundai Canadian Recall for Brake Line Corrosion

TORONTO — Transport Canada has issued a recall for certain model year 2011-2018 Hyundai vehicles whose brake lines could leak, thus diminishing braking capability.

According to the Canadian government agency’s recall # 023-125, the 295,777 2011-2016Hyundai Elantra and Equus, 2009 to 2014 Genesis, 2010 to 2016 Genesis Coupe, 2012 to 2017 Veloster, 2013 to 2018 Santa Fe and 2010 to 2011 Tucson models could “over time, the brake lines under the vehicle could corrode. If this happens, a brake line could fail and leak. A brake fluid leak can result in reduced braking.”

The situation could cause extended stopping distances and could increase the risk of a crash.

The remedy will consist of an inspection and application of an anti-corrosion material to certain underbody parts by a franchised Hyundai dealer technician and, if necessary, replacement of the brake lines.

Owners will be notified through the mail by Hyundai as to their vehicle’s being within the recall population.
