Acura recently debuted the Integra Type S HRC Prototype at the Monterey Car Week, revealing a potential new line of performance parts developed by Honda Racing Corporation (HRC). These parts, aimed at enhancing both street and track performance, reflect the expertise of championship-winning HRC engineers. The vehicle features advancements in aerodynamics, engine, and suspension, and made its public debut at The Quail, a Motorsports Gathering.
Key Highlights:
- HRC performance parts designed for street and track enthusiasts.
- Advanced aerodynamics inspired by the Integra Type S TCX racecar.
- Lightweight design with extensive use of carbon fiber, reducing the car’s weight by nearly 200 lbs.
- Enhanced braking performance with 15-inch front rotors and Brembo 6-piston calipers.
- Optimized engine performance with larger intercoolers and lightweight exhaust system.
Performance-Oriented Engineering
The Integra Type S HRC Prototype is focused on maximizing performance on both the street and the track. The prototype incorporates aerodynamic improvements like a larger front splitter, hood vents, and an adjustable carbon fiber rear wing. This design, developed through HRC’s experience with the Integra Type S TCX racecar, aims to boost downforce and improve high-speed stability.
With the goal of reducing weight, the prototype uses carbon fiber components throughout, including the hood and rear door panels. The removal of the rear seat and the option to delete air conditioning results in an overall weight reduction of nearly 200 lbs.
Power and Handling Enhancements
The prototype’s 2.0-liter turbocharged VTEC engine receives improvements to cooling and response, featuring a larger intercooler and twin oil coolers. The vehicle also comes equipped with a tuned cat-back exhaust system to enhance its performance. For optimized handling, the car’s suspension is track-ready, with coilovers, an adjustable anti-roll bar, and camber plates similar to those used in the Integra Type S TCX racecar.
Additionally, the track-ready suspension lowers the car by 15mm, and the wider front and rear tracks enhance cornering stability. Forged lightweight 19-inch wheels wrapped in Pirelli P Zero Trofeo R tires provide exceptional grip.
Braking System
One of the standout features of the Integra Type S HRC Prototype is its high-performance braking system. With massive 15-inch two-piece front rotors and Brembo 6-piston aluminum calipers, the vehicle offers exceptional braking power. Larger air ducts in the front fascia further improve brake cooling, essential for maintaining performance during intense driving conditions.
Honda Racing Corporation USA
HRC USA leads all high-performance racing programs for Honda and Acura in North America, including IndyCar and IMSA. The division will also contribute to Honda’s Formula One program as an engine supplier beginning in 2026.
This prototype represents the future of Honda Racing and Acura Motorsports, as HRC USA continues to push the boundaries of performance driving.
