Knorr-Bremse Achieves Two Top Ratings for Its Sustainability Performance

  • ISS-oekom awards Knorr-Bremse Prime Status for its sustainability strategy
  • EcoVadis honors Knorr-Bremse’s supplier management system with Gold Status

Munich, February 21, 2019 – Knorr-Bremse, global market leader for braking systems and a leading supplier of other rail and commercial vehicle systems, has received positive assessments for its sustainable corporate governance from two independent rating organizations – ISS-oekom and EcoVadis – for 2018.

As Ralph Heuwing, CFO of Knorr-Bremse AG and Member of the Executive Board responsible for Corporate Responsibility explains: “Our mission to achieve safe, eco-efficient mobility is closely linked to our sustainable governance goals. These positive ratings from ISSoekom and EcoVadis reflect our ongoing efforts to meet these aims.”

Stefan Bräuherr, Head of Corporate Responsibility at Knorr-Bremse adds: “Responsible behavior includes such issues as working conditions, human rights, environmental protection and safety, business ethics and compliance in all parts of the company. Rating organizations like ISS-oekom and EcoVadis provide our stakeholders with transparency on these matters and spur us on to further improvements.”

In this case, assessment of the company’s ongoing sustainability performance serves two groups: The rating agency ISS-oekom provides information to help investors appraise the company; and the supplier platform EcoVadis supports business customers in their decision-making processes.

ISS-oekom in Munich analyzes the environmental, social and governance (ESG) performance of the world’s leading share and bond issuers. For 2018 the prestigious agency ranked Knorr-Bremse amongst the top 20% in the “Machinery” sector and awarded it Prime Status.

EcoVadis uses its platform to make its CSR assessment of suppliers to global supply chains available to Knorr-Bremse’s customers and partners. Criteria relating to the environment, social affairs, ethics and sustainable procurement are analyzed and assessed. 2018 saw Knorr-Bremse improve its rating for sustainable supplier relations and become one of the 5% top performers.
