Exhibitor Showcase: LINK Engineering

Orlando, Fla. – Prominent on the right side of Link Engineering’s display at the 37th Annual SAE International Brake Colloquium & Exhibition is their relatively new “public” version of LabLINK, its proprietary laboratory information management system (LIMS).

“We’ve been using LabLINK for two years for our internal management,” explained Adam R. Link, technical director. “We began rolling it out to interested customers earlier this year. It is browser-based so it can be accessed on any computer as well as being available on mobile devices (tablets and smartphones), so systems can be monitored from anywhere at any time.”

LabLINK is a modular LIMS with machine interface capability consisting of:

  1. Test request module
  2. Scheduling module
  3. Lab-monitor module – automated graphical real-time and historical performance
  4. Maintenance module – customizable and centralized equipment maintenance views and alerts

Fiat Chrysler Automobiles (FCA) recently acquired LabLINK for its Chelsea, Mich. proving grounds. The multi-national automaker was searching for a laboratory information management system (LIMS) that could effectively manage test operations for 24 chassis dynamometers in their mileage accumulation test facility. FCA’s goal was to improve the efficiency of their lab, while also streamlining lab management processes for their team.

“They found their answer in LabLINK,” said Link.

Also, on display at the colloquium was the Model 6330 Brake Emissions Testing system. The M6330 is an enclosed, dynamometer-based brake-sampling system that replicates a duty cycle from the test vehicle and collects samples of particulate matter under controlled conditions. These conditions include, but are not limited to, air temperature, humidity and brake cooling. With this system, a large variety of characteristics can be measured, such as particulate mass, particulate number, particle-size distribution and concentration, as well as sample for chemical and toxicology assessments – all in a single setup!
