SYDNEY, AUSTRALIA–Toyota and Lexus Australia have put sales of various hybrid models on hold over an issue related to the regenerative braking system.

“At this stage the Toyota vehicles affected are Camry, Corolla Hatch, RAV4 and Prius. For Lexusthe models affected are Lexus ES and UX,” the company said in a statement.

“Toyota has identified that brake-related parts may require inspection and has therefore ordered a sales stop of selected vehicles.”

“This is a precautionary measure only at this stage and we are in the process of investigation. Vehicle inspections have commenced and we will provide further details on expected completion timing and the subsequent lifting of this sales stop, as soon as possible.”

It’s unclear to what extent vehicles already delivered have been affected, and the company is yet to issue a recall notice or any official form of communication to customers on the matter.

We don’t know exactly how long the sales stop will last, either. Buyers wanting a hybrid RAV4, for example, already have to wait up to four months as of a week ago, so this latest news could push the wait list out further.
