SGL Carbon, Brembo JV to Expand Production

MEITINGEN , Germany/STEZZANO, Italy — SGL Carbon and Brembo have joined forces to significantly boost production capacities for their joint venture (JV), Brembo SGL Carbon Ceramic Brakes (BSCCB).

The collaborative effort between the two companies has culminated in a strategic expansion plan, to be executed by BSCCB, set to unfold over the next few years.

BSCCB is slated to invest approximately €150 million by 2027 in expanding production capabilities, with a remarkable 70% increase expected at their facilities located in Meitingen, Germany, and Stezzano, Italy.

The ambitious capacity augmentation plan includes the construction of two new production facilities at the SGL Carbon Meitingen site, spanning 8,500 square meters in total. These state-of-the-art facilities will also house cutting-edge production machinery.

The groundbreaking ceremony for these facilities is scheduled for the upcoming fall season.

Meanwhile, at the Stezzano site, BSCCB plans to extend existing production areas by approximately 4,000 square meters and install advanced production machinery to support the expansion efforts.

The far-reaching expansion of production capacities is anticipated to position Brembo SGL Carbon Ceramic Brakes (BSCCB) to effectively meet the soaring market demand and cater to the growing customer requests in the years ahead.

This surge in demand for carbon ceramic brake discs produced by BSCCB is primarily attributed to the exceptional product quality and performance of their carbon ceramic brake discs, which perfectly align with the specific requirements of automotive manufacturers, particularly in the premium and luxury segments where impeccable braking performance is essential.

The agreement to expand capacity represents a pivotal milestone for the joint venture, originally established in 2009. Dr. Martin Gruhlke, Chairman of the Board of Directors at BSCCB S.p.A., expressed his pride in the joint venture’s success and the fruitful collaboration between the two shareholders.

Dr. Gruhlke stated, “The development shows that the combination of knowledge and capabilities of both shareholders pays off. Furthermore, we have a great BSCCB team that works hard for the success. With the expansion, we continue to be a reliable partner and meet future customer demand for our high-quality products.”

This strategic expansion underscores the commitment of SGL Carbon and Brembo to providing cutting-edge automotive solutions and meeting the evolving needs of the global automotive industry. As the groundbreaking ceremony in Meitingen approaches, industry insiders eagerly anticipate the positive impact of this investment on Brembo SGL Carbon Ceramic Brakes’ position in the market.
