HARTLEPOOL, U.K. — TMD Friction’s U.K. technical team has successfully passed the IMI Level 3 Award in Electric (EV)/Hybrid Vehicle System Repair and Replacement, as the company continues to look ahead and make key investments for the future.

Stuart Incledon, technical sales representative, and James Harper, field technical support, at TMD Friction undertook 12 hours of online technical training and one full day in an assessment training center, gaining the knowledge to work safely when carrying out repair activities on electric and hybrid vehicle high voltage systems, while also acquiring a thorough understanding of regenerative braking.

The duo also learnt the skills and expertise required to work safely around a vehicle that may have had damage to its high energy or electrical system via e-learning initiatives.

The content of the qualification contains two mandatory units: EV2.2 and EV3.

EV2.2 covers all of the skills and knowledge from the IMI Level 2 Award in Electric (EV)/Hybrid Vehicles Routine Maintenance Activities, while EV3 covers skills in: Working safely on an electric or hybrid vehicle; using information to carry out the task; carrying out repairs on high energy electrical systems; and recording information and making suitable recommendations.

This achievement means that TMD Friction’s entire U.K. technical training team is now fully qualified to carry out work on electric and hybrid vehicles.

Scott Irwin MIMI, Head of Technical Training at TMD Friction: “We recognize the value of continued CPD training at TMD and we pride ourselves on supporting our employees with their ongoing learning and development, as automotive technology continues to evolve. It’s important that, as an industry, we invest in the required training and resources to futureproof our team and businesses so that we can continue to repair and maintain the growing vehicle parc.
