Auburn Hills, Mich. – Continental Engineering Services (CES) continues to grow its west coast customer relationships with the development of key safety technologies for the all-new 2020 Karma Revero GT luxury electric vehicle. Blind Spot Detection (BSD) and Lane Change Assist (LCA) will come standard on the Revero GT, on sale now with first deliveries scheduled for Q4.
CES, a subsidiary of Continental, is a leading international development and production partner for customers in various industries such as automotive, agriculture, powersports and more. The company modifies existing products from the Continental Automotive portfolio or produces unique solutions for technological challenges in the vehicle interiors, powertrain and chassis fields of expertise.
“Continental Engineering Services gives our customers access to longstanding, proven technology and expertise,” said Aruna Anand, head of Continental Engineering Services, North America. “While we serve automotive and industrial customers of all sizes, our agility and speed are exceptionally useful to both emerging and established automotive companies that have non-traditional business models like Karma Automotive.”
With access to Continental’s entire technology pool, CES can adapt technologies to its customers’ needs, creating solutions that are tailormade for each project. In this instance, that meant ensuring the BSD and LCA are suited to the Revero GT’s unique design, structure and performance standards.
BSD and LCA work together to inform drivers with an audio or visual warning if there are vehicles in adjacent lanes that the driver may not see. This includes vehicles hovering in their blind spot – the area alongside and just behind the vehicle – as well as fast-approaching vehicles not yet in the blind spot that could pose a risk. These alerts help facilitate safe lane changes.
“The 2020 Revero GT is new from the ground up; it’s faster, smarter, and even more stunning in design than its predecessor,” said Bob Kruse, Karma’s Chief Technology Officer. “Karma uses collaborative partnerships, like the one we enjoy with Continental Engineering Services, to help speed product development and access to technology. We improved the Revero in every way we could, and we’ll use these kinds of partnerships to continue to improve and advance the industry through achievements in luxury EV engineering, infotainment, and mobility.”
Flexibility in the changing mobility landscape
“As the transportation industry continues to evolve, we see a growing number of customers bringing less formal and concrete requirements and in need of faster development times,” explained Anand. “Whether the solution includes the modification of tested, high-volume technologies, or entirely new product development, CES is centered around creative problem solving. We are able to provide development teams with unique flexibility and speed for any project.”
CES can react to new requirements to efficiently create work products that meets the needs. With a service portfolio that includes development, product supply, integration and consulting, as well as core competencies and expert engineering in driver assistance, interior electronic functions, driveline and electrification, and brake systems, CES is the ideal engineering and production partner for solving technical challenges within the very broad mobility sector.
