ZDX Software Update Addresses Brake Issue

Acura is recalling approximately 5,000 ZDX A-Spec AWD and ZDX Type S vehicles in the U.S. due to a software issue that may lead to a loss of braking capability at speeds below 25 mph. The recall specifically targets all-wheel-drive (AWD) models of the 2024 ZDX. Affected vehicles can receive a free software update via an over-the-air (OTA) update available from August 16, with no dealership visit required. Acura reports that no crashes or injuries related to this issue have occurred.

ZDX Software Update Addresses Brake Issue

Acura’s voluntary recall is aimed at updating the Electronic Brake Control Module (EBCM) software to correct the issue. The problem occurs when applying the brakes at low speeds on a flat, smooth, dry surface, potentially causing the anti-lock braking system (ABS) to engage incorrectly. If this happens, the ABS may continue to release braking pressure, leading to reduced stopping performance or brake failure, thereby increasing the risk of a crash.

Owners of the affected vehicles will receive a notification on the center touchscreen, prompting them to install the update after driving and shifting the vehicle to Park. The update can be installed immediately or deferred through the vehicle’s Settings menu. The process takes about five minutes, during which time the vehicle will be inoperable, and features like door locks, windows, and warning chimes may not function.

For those needing assistance, Acura dealers are available to perform the update. Acura encourages owners to complete the update as soon as possible. A mailed notification will be sent in September to owners whose vehicles have not yet been updated. Additional details can be found at Acura Recalls or by calling (888) 234-2138.
